Deaf Smith's Rangers
Sorry Jody - Gotta DO IT bro
Sometimes a story has to be told and with that story is a lifetime of jokes at the expense of those who lived it.
Short Version. The long version can only be passed on by word of mouth by an original Deaf Smith Ranger (DSR).
Once upon a time at TIR camp...February 2008
3 charter DSR members decided to scout out the TIR race route a few weekends before the big event. During that scouting trip Jody fell in love with a purple dragon. THE END. OK we'll give you a little more than that. So one of the dudes on the trip had a weedend place in Shiner. The plan was to drive over to Shiner from Houston, stay the night, then drive the route back to Houston the next day. Well beer is pretty popular in Shiner and you could go as far a to say even for the whole region. By the time dusk set in these dudes were hammered and doing all sorts of stupid stuff like jumping in the creek (IN FEBRUARY). They finally settle down for the night and each finds a place in the house to crash. The next morning they wake up to find Jody curled up with a freaking Purple Dragon! One can only speculate what transpired through the night... So Jody got his dragon and our team has a mascot.
The Deaf Smith's Rangers were formed in 2007 as a tribute to arguably the greatest Texan who ever lived. Inspired by the Texas Independence Relay, this motley crew of runners set out to run from Gonzalez TX to the San Jacinto Monument (over 200 miles) in two days. This has become an annual event and this is their story.
